After a very long wait, Hollow Knight: Silksong finally arrived, and it was worth it. You play as Hornet, exploring a new kingdom full of bugs, secrets and dangerous enemies. If you loved the original Hollow Knight, this sequel gives you more of what you enjoyed, but faster and harder.
Movement
Hornet is more agile than the Knight from the first game. She moves quickly, climbs, dashes and attacks in many directions. Exploring feels smooth, and platforming sections are more acrobatic.
Exploration
The world is large and interconnected. You find new abilities that open old paths, and there are hidden rooms everywhere. The map system requires you to find or buy maps, so you will often feel lost at first. That is part of the charm, but it can also be frustrating.
Combat and difficulty
Combat is fast and rewards learning enemy patterns. Many enemies deal heavy damage, and some bosses will test your patience. This is not a game for players looking for a relaxed experience, but beating a difficult section is very satisfying.
Art and music
The hand-drawn art is beautiful and every area has its own look. The music is atmospheric and fits each location perfectly.
Verdict
Silksong is a great Metroidvania and a worthy sequel. If you enjoy challenging games, it is a must buy. If you get frustrated easily, be prepared for some tough moments.
