Elden Ring Review – An Open-World Masterpiece Worth the Pain

Elden Ring Review – An Open-World Masterpiece Worth the Pain

Elden Ring takes FromSoftware’s famous difficult combat and places it in a huge open world called the Lands Between. You can ride your horse in any direction, find hidden caves and castles, and face enemies that will defeat you many times before you learn their patterns.

Freedom to explore

The biggest strength of Elden Ring is freedom. If a boss is too hard, you can leave, explore elsewhere, get stronger and come back later. Every corner of the map seems to hide something, from secret dungeons to giant dragons. This makes the game more approachable than earlier Souls titles.

Combat and builds

Combat is challenging and requires patience. You learn when to attack, when to dodge and when to retreat. There are many builds to try, from heavy armour and big swords to magic, faith spells and summoning spirits to help you. Experimenting with different weapons is half the fun.

Bosses

Bosses are a highlight, ranging from huge creatures to tense duels with skilled warriors. Some will take dozens of attempts. The feeling of finally beating one is something few games can match.

Story

The story is told through item descriptions, short conversations and the world itself. It is mysterious and rewards players who dig deeper, but those who want a clear story may feel lost.

Verdict

Elden Ring is one of the best games of its generation. It is hard, but it is also generous in giving you ways to overcome that difficulty. If you have ever been curious about Souls games, this is the best place to start.
