Honkai: Star Rail takes the polish of Genshin Impact and puts it into a turn-based RPG set across space. You travel between worlds on the Astral Express with a group of memorable companions, and battles are played out with careful planning instead of fast reflexes.
Combat
Each character has a basic attack, a skill and a powerful ultimate. Enemies have weaknesses to certain elements, and breaking their toughness bar stuns them and opens up big damage. Managing skill points between your team adds a nice layer of strategy. It is easy to learn but there is plenty of depth in building teams for harder content.
Story and characters
The writing is one of the biggest surprises. It is often genuinely funny, with many references and silly side quests, but the main story also has serious and emotional moments. Characters are well designed and have strong personalities.
Exploration
The worlds are not fully open like in Genshin, but they are detailed and full of chests, puzzles and side stories. Exploration is more guided, which suits short mobile sessions.
Daily routine and gacha
Like most gacha games there are daily tasks and a stamina system. Auto-battle and sweep features help a lot. Characters and Light Cones come from banners, and while you can clear most content without paying, limited characters are tempting.
Verdict
If you love turn-based games or want something calmer than action gacha, Honkai: Star Rail is one of the best choices on mobile today. It is perfect to play in short bursts during the day.
