Stardew Valley Review – The Perfect Game to Unwind After Work

Stardew Valley is the game many people go back to when they just want to relax. You inherit an old farm in a small town, leave your office job behind and slowly build a new life. It sounds simple, but there is far more depth than you expect.

A day in Stardew

Each in-game day you decide how to spend your time and energy. Water your crops, take care of animals, go fishing, explore the mines or spend time with the townspeople. Seasons change every few weeks, bringing new crops, festivals and challenges. There is no pressure to do everything, which is what makes it so calming.

Characters and relationships

The town is full of characters with their own stories. Giving gifts and talking to people unlocks heart events that reveal more about their lives. You can eventually marry one of the residents, and many players get very attached to their favourites.

Mines and secrets

For those who want more action, the mines offer simple combat and valuable resources. Later in the game there are hidden areas, secret notes and late-game goals that keep experienced players busy for a long time.

Co-op

Playing with friends on the same farm is one of the best parts. Splitting jobs between farming, mining and fishing makes the farm grow much faster, and it is a great way to hang out online.

Mobile version

The mobile version includes the main game and is great for short sessions on the LRT or during lunch. The touch controls take a little getting used to, but once you adjust it works well.

Verdict

Stardew Valley is one of the best value games you can buy. Whether you want to relax after a long day or build the perfect farm, it is easy to recommend to almost anyone.
